Snapshot
I was born in 1962 at Sangli (Maharashtra) and am the youngest son of late Shree RajarambapuPatil. I did my graduation in Civil Engineering from the prestigious VJTI, Mumbai. I started working for rural development and upliftment at the young age of twenty-two years. It was at this age that I lost my greatest inspiration, my father, to sudden illness, and came back to India from United States (where I was persuing my higher education) to lead the journey that my late father, Rajarambapu had started.
I started my political career in 1990 as Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Walwa Constituency and won the love and support of people from my constituency every election. (1990, 1995, 1999, 2004 and 2009). I am humbled by this show of faith by my people.
I then served as Minister of Finance and Planning, Government of Maharashtra for three successive terms. After a term as Minister for Home, Government of Maharashtra, I joined my current role as Minister for Rural Development, Government of Maharashtra in November, 2009. This game me an opportunity to work more closely with rural people across Maharshtra than any other portfolio I had held earlier.
It has been a rewarding journey, but it’s far from over. I have a dream of making every village self-dependent and prosperous. Without development of villages, our country and state can not make progress. Betterment of villages consists in making every villager prosperous and self-dependent. Economic status of villages will rise with eradication of poverty and penury. I have always dreamed of delivering dynamic service to the villagers and connect them globally. Let cities and villages have a level-playing field.
